Steven works within the storm-scale hydrometeorology group at the National Severe Storms Laboratory, and his focus is on improving precipitation estimations in the Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor (MRMS) system. Research topics range from gauge quality control to radar precipitation accuracy and filling in radar coverage gaps. Steven is also involved in various research-to-operations activities. He helps lead a testbed experiment that evaluates emerging technologies for flash flood prediction and warning decision making. He also interacts with National Weather Service forecasters and instructors regarding precipitation challenges and the application of new products for operational use.
