Andrew Wood

Senior Research Associate

I have spent the last 20 years conducting applied research, developing training content, and supporting forecast training experiences delivered by the National Weather Service (NWS) Office of the Chief Learning Officer. I work closely with the Warning Decision Training Division (WDTD), the NWS’ training office that develops and delivers training on the various science, technology, and human factors related to the NWS warning process. My specific training development work over the last two decades has focused on the WSR-88D system, as well as different aspects of winter and severe weather warning operations. I also provide technical support to WDTD instructors in the development of their training courses. In addition to my training development duties, I administer two different platforms that the WDTD uses to deliver its training: the WDTD web site (https://training.weather.gov/wdtd/) and the Department of Commerce Learning Center (CLC). In this administrative role, I update and maintain all training-related content to ensure it’s available to all NWS forecasters for WDTD’s various training initiatives.
