Several University of Oklahoma Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies travel to various American Meteorological Society conferences and professional development opportunities, sharing their research with others, throughout the summer.

Among those was Sarah Borg, CIMMS employee and OU School of Meteorology graduate student. In early July Borg participated in AMS’ 15th Conference on Cloud Physics and the 15th Conference on Atmospheric Radiation in Vancouver in Canada.

While at the conference Borg won an award for best student oral presentation. Her presentation was entitled: “The Effects of Radiation on Tropopause Polar Vortices Over the Greenland Ice Sheet.” Congratulations to Borg on her achievement!

Another award winner is Montgomery “Monte” Flora, a CIMMS employee and OU SoM PhD student. Flora attend the AMS 29th Conference on Weather Analysis and Forecasting/25thConference on Numerical Weather Prediction in June.

Flora was one of three students to win a Best Student Poster Presentation award at this year’s conference. His poster was entitled:  “Enhancing Storm-Scale 1-h Probabilistic Low-level Rotation Forecasts through Machine Learning.” Congratulations to Flora on this accomplishment!
