The team that contributes to the Hazardous Weather Testbed was selected to receive the Larry R. Johnson Special Award at the 40th Annual Meeting of the National Weather Association on October 21, 2015. This prestigious award is given to an individual or group that has made significant contributions to the field of operational meteorology.

NOAA’s Hazardous Weather Testbed is a joint operation among the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Storm Prediction Center, and National Weather Service – Norman Forecast Office. CIMMS scientists work closely with these groups and frequently offer their time and talents to help move projects forward.

Throughout the year, experiments in the HWT allow researchers and forecasters to collaborate in a simulated operational environment. This unique setup allows for a two-way stream of information that ultimately endeavors to improve NWS forecasts and warnings.

This award highlights the efforts of many hard-working individuals and we congratulate you all!
